27/4/08 - Arts Heroes

Today i researched and studied my chosen artist Xenz using the internet to find out as much information about him as i could. I compiled this infomation in Microsoft word and have posted it below for you to see...

Xenz

Name : Graeme Brusby

Born : 1974 in Hull

Star sign : Scorpio

Based : London

Website : http://www.xenz.org/

Interests : Football, Nike trainers and dogs

Influences : Claude Monet, and films such as Blade Runner

Style of art : Birds and futuristic landscapes by using spray cans

Xenz started off by painting traditional graffiti and began experimenting a more freestyle approach to painting with a spray can. Eventually the typical New York graffiti letter forms that inspired him turned into fantasy worlds and dramatic sky scenes. His style has now become predominantly landscape and features birds, flowers and butterflies.

During the late 90’s he applied for Edinburgh college of art and studied textiles and it gave his work a delicate decorative edge.

Xenz now lives in London and is a pivotal member of the TCF crew. TCF crew is one of the UK’s most admired and respected graffiti collectives and also collaborates extensively with other artists all over the world.

29/4/08 - My own work

This was a photo of a statues head that i took at the Bristol Meseum. I then put in on the computer and printed the photo off in colour. Then i photocopied it and used it as the base to work on top of. Then tore up the original colour photograph and stuck it over the photocopied picture to make this collage.

For my second piece of work i started by studying some of Picasso's sketches. This picture is a self portrait of Picasso. The thing i liked about this picture was that i liked the way he sketched the hair strips, they start off dark and it goes light as the hair gets lighter. I used this picture as an inspiration for my next piece.
This is my version of Picasso's self portrait. I started by sketching my own larger picture of Picasso's self portrait, I then started adding ripped up black and white newspaper and stuck it down as my background. I then used my sketch to cut out templates out of brown paper of each piece of the face and then stuck them down to create the picure of Picasso's self portrait that i drew, then i went round the edges with a thick black pen to make it stand out more.

Persepolis the film.
@ The watershed in Bristol

REVIEW by Adam

Persepolis is a comic that was turned into an animated film. The main character is Marjane Satrapi which was a 8 year old girl from Tehran, Iran.

I thought that the film was interesting and it was different from other movies it also had some sad parts. For me the best thing about Persepolis was the Animation because it was black and white when there was bads things happening and it had colour went she felt happy. The worse thing i thought about Persepolis is that it was sometimes hard to understand. I have also learned how hard it must be to be an Iranian citizen. I would recommend young English people who dont know whats its like to live in Iran.

14/4/08 - My own art - Inspiration

This session we went out and about in Stokes Croft and in a group took photographs and gathered inspiration for our own art work

This is a photo of a picture that i took
when i was walking around Stokes
Croft. I like the way that the colours and shapes interact with each other. I found out that the name of the artist who painted this is Felix also known as FLX.

This is another photo that i took in
Stokes Croft of an art work painted
by Mr Jago. To me it looks like a sun with big colourful clouds.
This was put up on Stokes Croft as part of a project run by the Peoples Republic of Stokes Croft

8/4/08 Arts Heroes

We began this session by looking at past/dead artists such as Piccasso, Dali and Bosch. This is an self portrait by Piccasso, i chose this picture because i like the way he makes the face out of shapes and different sizes.

We also looked at new artists such as Banksy,
Xenz and Sickboy. This is a picture of Xenz bird and i like it because the way he blends the colours in, and i like his style.

This is the begining of our arts award,
these are photos of where we
discussed - being an audience member, Artist yourself, looking at arts heroes or artists we really like and being an arts apprentice.

In these photographs im discussing with Desmond what we was going to do and a photograph of Aaron wth a
pink camera!

We went out and about in Bristol and took
photographs of things that interested us,
like this one sculpture of rings by the childrens hospital

We also visited the bristol museum and
looked at the exhibitions that were there.
I like this photo because it has nice patterns
and colours on the vase.
